PRR 8706, FS-24M, 1960
Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took at the State Route 53 Bridge near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in November of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8704, #8706, and #8825. #8704 and #8706 are FS-24M "Train Masters" built by Fairbanks-Morse in September of 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. #8825 is an AS-16M road switcher built by the American Locomotive Company in November of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They're pulling an eastbound coal train toward Gallitzin and the New Portage Tunnel on their way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona. ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.)
